1/10000 Parkdale House and attached railings, wall and outbuilding

House. Built 1824 for George Washington Anstie, Solicitor, on land given by his father B.W. Anstie. Stucco over brick; hipped Welsh slate roof; stucco stacks. Double-depth central stairhall plan. 2 storeys; symmetrical 5-window NE front, has 1:3:1 fenestration articulated by pilasters to blocking course. 4/8 first-floor and 8/8-pane ground floor sashes. Flat-roofed porch with pilasters and ½-glazed 6-panelled double doors. Rear elevation of 1:2:1: fenestration articulated by pilasters: four original 8/8-pane sashes, 2 french windows to centre, mid C19 window in widened opening to ground-floor left. Fine tented verandah with decorative ironwork. Decorative wrought-iron railings surmount terrace wall to front, with gas lamp in SE corner. To left (E) of front is approx. 10m of stucco wall with brick lean-to attached to pyramidal slate-roofed 2-storey outbuilding, built of Flemish bond brick with cast-iron Gothic windows. Interior: panelled doors and shutters, moulded cornices, open-well stair with stick balusters and wreathed handrail, large kitchen fireplace and dressers; fireplaces mostly date from refitting of c1870, and include simple marble fireplace of cl820's in S ground-floor rear left room. The Anstie family constructed the tobacco and snuff factory (qv) at the rear of New Park Street and Snuff Street in 1785. G.W. Anstie lived at Parkdale until his death in 1882. A fine and well-preserved Regency villa.
