GV II

Farmhouse. Early C17, with later facade and alterations. Timber framed. Ground floor red brick, first floor tile-hung. Front gable end of left cross-wing red brick in a Sussex-type bond to ground floor, buff brick in Flemish bond above. Left return tile-hung, probably over brick. Plain tile roof. East-facing main range of 2 timber-framed bays, built at right-angles to road. Later C17 or C18 single-bay rear return wing to right. Left (south)end rebuilt in early C19 as cross-wing projecting to front (slightly) and rear, but incorporating fragment of earlier timber-framing in right wall. 2 storeys. Left cross-wing has higher eaves and ridge, roof hipped to front and rear. Main range hipped to right with gablet. Rear right wing 1½ storeys, with half-hipped roof. Multiflue brick stack in front slope of roof to left end of main range, and another to rear to right to junction of rear wing and main range. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows; one recessed twelve-pane sash to front gable-end of left cross-wing, one pair of four-pane sashes with central mullion towards centre of main range, and one four-pane sash towards right end. Boarded door to right of centre of main range. Lean-to with tile- hung gable to right end. Lean-to to long left side of rear right wing, descending almost to ground. Lean-to to right side of wing with partly chalk-lump walls. Red and grey brick rear lean-to to left end of main range, with half-glazed door under stack. Interior: exposed framing. Chamfered cross beam to right of centre of principal ground-floor room, and tenoned axial beam. Partition of thin studs and lacing- pieces with three panels to storey, to right end of room. Right end ground-floor room has chamfered axial beam and joists, and door of twelve moulded panels to right gable end. Gunstock-jowled posts. Tie-beam with partition under it above cross beam of principal ground- floor room. No truss over ground-floor partition. Exposed framing to rear wall of main range. Inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer to left end of principal ground floor room, and smaller brick fireplace with angled back to first floor above. Brick inglenook with bressumer to ground floor of rear right wing. Left cross-wing has reeded window architrave with paterae, panelled shutters, similar doorway, and stick balusters. Formerly known as Parsonage Farm.
