SEMINGTON HIGH STREET ST 86 SE (west side) 4/196 Brook House GV II
Villa. Circa 1850. Limestone ashlar, hipped Welsh slate roof with ashlar stacks. Rectangular main range with rear service wing. Italianate. Two-storey, 3-window, symmetrical front. Central door with glazed vertical panels, pilastered porch with consoles to cornice, either side are triple plate glass sashes with segmental headed and heavy moulded cornice with consoles. First floor has central double round-arched sashes with moulded capitals to pilasters flanked by triple sashes with round-arched heads and moulded capitals. Moulded cornice to blocking course with 3 panels of pierced oval discs. Left return has triple sashes with segmental heads, consoles to cornice, within conservatory, 2-light wooden casement to left, first floor has 2-light flush mullioned casement to left and triple round-arched window to right with blind sidelights and centre sash, cornice to plain blocking course. Right return has 16-pane sashes. Rear 2-storey service wing with flush mullioned sashes and rear of main range with 16-pane sashes. Interior not accessible at time of survey (January 1987), but said to retain original features such as stairs and joinery. Included as a good little altered example of the Italianate villa, probably built for a local industrial entrepreneur.
