2. By Thomas Baldwin of Bath 1806-08 using parts of the preceding C17 building. Fine elegant design. 2 storeys Bath stone. North front has full height central segmental bow. Rusticated ground floor on projecting plinth. Moulded 1st floor stringcourse carrying 6 semi-engaged unfluted Ionic columns, entablature with curved frieze and blocking course over. 5 windows. The ground floor windows segment headed in bow and semi-circular headed to sides with radiating and wreathed glazing pattern to heads, the wreaths only to 3 central windows, all set in plain stone recesses. The ground floor was originally open. The 1st floor bow windows have architrave surrounds with outer half-pilasters, acanthus heads, supporting plain frieze cornice and pediment. The outer lst floor windows have plain surrounds with panel over. Iron balcony to centre of rectangular, diamond and oval pattern. The side elevations each have on ground floor 4 sash windows and 2 tall 8 panel doors with semi-circular radiating and wreathed fanlights in wide stone segment headed recesses framed by stone Doric pilasters and panelled frieze. The lst floor has 6 windows, 3 blind. The false 2nd floor 6 blind windows. The curved rear elevation is of generally similar design to the sides but has a framework of 2 stringcourses and vertical piers. 5 windows, blind on 2nd floor, 1 blind lst floor. Side bays on ground floor have 1 oval window each. The left hand bay has a recessed studded door with a grill. The rear and side walls have a shallow cornice, parapet and coping. A series of contemporary cast lead rain water pipes are placed round the building with cast lead heads enriched with the Town Arms. Inside on the 1st floor is a fine Assembly Room with delicate Adamish plasterwork. Windows on the north side with bow and 2 apses at both ends. Above the entrance door small musicians gallery flanked by Ionic pilasters. Anthemion cornice. The vestibule has a lantern.
