Details

SEMINGTON HIGH STREET ST 86 SE (east side) 4/194 No 29 and Semington House GV II B Detached house, now two dwellings. W B 1794 inscribed at top of left hand rear pilaster. Limestone ashlar, Welsh slate hipped roof, stone stacks with moulded cappings. Square main block with rear service extensions. Three-storey, 3-window. Central door to Semington House has 6 fielded panels with fanlight in portico. with pairs of Ionic columns with angle volutes, modillioned cornice, tripartite 12-pane sash either side; ground floor is rusticated, pilasters carried up to eaves. Double plat band to first floor; central sash with tripartite sash either side, three 9-pane second floor sashes; one replaced by C20 double-glazed window, modillioned cornice to plain blocking course. Right return, garden front, has central double 6-panelled doors with flat stone hood on brackets, sashes to sides and to each floor as front; ground floor plain. Left return also similar to front but with two 3-light mullioned windows to cellar and blind window in place of central door. Two-storey rear services with entrance to No 29 on left return in double stained glass doors with margin-pane glazing bars, 2-light mullioned casements and 9-pane sashes. Short service wing to left with sash and planked door. Interior has stairs in Semington House with stick balusters and wreathed handrail, service stairs in No 29, six-panelled doors in moulded architraves, classical marble fireplace in No 29, rear services in Semington House have chamfered beam, planked doors and corner cupboard with dentil cornice. Built for the Bruges family.
