Row of cottages, once one house. Late C16 or early C17 timberframed building re-roofed and converted into cottages in C18 and restored in C20. Faced with C20 red brick. Part of rear elevation of No. 8 is weatherboarded. Steeply pitched tiled roof with 1 off central and 1 end stack. 2 storeys and attics, 5 windows, 4 C18 hipped dormers with casement windows. Other windows are C20 casements set in cambered architraves to ground floor. 3 cambered doorcases. Internally No. 5 has a late C16 or early C17 ground floor ceiling with chamfered spine beam and joists with lambs tongue stops. No. 7 has an early C17 type spine beam with chamfer and lambs tongue stop though the roof is C18. No. 8 originally had a barn projecting forward in front of it and the end part has C18 framing with diagonal tension braces. C18 fireplace and early C19 cast iron basket grate. 2 panelled door and some panelling with butterfly hinges. Angled queen strut roof. 2nd floor has lobe C18 or early C19 winder stairs. Some C16 or C17 floorboards remain. Shown on drawing of Rye by Sir Anthony Van Dyck.
