THELBRIDGE CURRITON HILL SS 71 SE 2/260 - Curriton Farmhouse including Granary and Byre to east - II
Small farmhouse with adjoining granary and byre. Early C17 farmhouse; C17 granary and byre, refurbished in C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks topped with C20 brick; slate roof to farmhouse, corrugated iron to granary and byre (all formerly thatched). 2-room house facing south with lobby entry plan and large central axial stack serving only the larger left (western) room. Inserted C20 end stack to smaller room. Adjoining to right (east) is granary and byre with hayloft over. 2 storeys. Irregular 3 window front to house of late C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars, and wide plank door to entrance lobby. Roof is half-hipped to left. Main stack has original stone rubble chimney shaft with drip course and coping, now topped with C20 brick. Walls and roof of outbuildings continue from house. Granary has door to left and shuttered window above. Flight of external stone steps to right. Byre has door with hayloft loading hatch over left of centre and small window towards right end. Interior of house contains early C17 features; a chamfered and late step-stopped crossbeam to larger room which also includes some reused C17 oak small field panelled wainscotting. Fireplace blocked. Side-pegged jointed cruck truss roof. Granary has partly-mended side-pegged jointed cruck truss. Byre has C20 first floor structure and C19 A-frame truss roof and is included for group value.
