SE2628SW LS27 TROY ROAD MORLEY (east side, off), 7/175 Group of 5 tombs approx, 8m east of canted bay on east end of Church of St Mary
GV II
Group of 5 chest tombs. c1681, 1689, 1691, 1738, 1743. Ashlar. Stone slabs raised on panelled bases. Arranged in pairs set above each other with one below. Top pair : That to left to "Mrs. Hannah Craister of Morley" who died March 23rd 1738/9 aged 83. Arched surround finely carved with trumpeting angels set in spandrels in high relief.
That to right to "Mary Beaumont of Morley. daughter of Thomas Metcalfe" who died November 5th 1689. Has decorative heart with date and initials.
2nd row : that to left to "Thomas Craister" who died 13th May 1681. Decorative carved stone with heart motif with initials and date.
That to right to "Elizabeth Craister" who died 1691. Inscription set within a simple inscribed shield.
Set below is tomb to "Thomas Hemsworth of Morley" who died 14th January 1743 Arched head with impost keystone and carved spandrels with winged head of angels.
