II GV

Estate cottage with attached garden walls. c1856 for Lord Enfield, as Garden Cottage (q.v.). Red brick in Flemish bond; Welsh slate roof; L-shaped cottage of 1½ storeys, 2 bays, the right bay projecting and gabled with a small-pane 3-light window to ground floor, and similar 2-light window above, each in chamfered surround with gauged brick arch and dripmould. Porch in internal angle has open timber frame on brick plinth, hipped roof, and door into right-hand wing. Brick kneelers to raised verges with brick coping. Stack to right side and rear left. Right return has a 1-light window to right, and a 2-light window above breaking eaves under gablet. From right corner, brick wall projects forward and turns to enclose trapezoidal garden plot, broken by gateway, in line with porch, which has simple iron gate. The wall has rounded brick coping and varies in height between approximately 1 m and 2 m, ramping up either side of gateway. At south-east corner of garden, short section of wall continues eastwards to end in brick gatepier with domed capstone.
