TQ 67 41 BRENCHLEY HIGH STREET, BRENCHLEY (south side) 15/128 3 Wimshurst headstones and 5 bodystones about 10m south east of the porch of the Church of All Saints GV II

3 headstones and 5 bodystones. Freestone. Early C19. A family group in the north east corner of the churchyard. The 2 northern headstones are a pair, segmental-headed with shouldered scrolled corners. Each has the eye of God carved in the head with rays descending from it. Festoons carved in the corners. The inscriptions are carved in an open book, carved in relief. Swag of cloth carved in relief below the inscription. The northernmost commemorates Alexander Wimshurst, died 1805. The next south commemorates Phoeby Wimshurst, died 1830. Each has 2 bodystones. The southern headstone is Gothick in style, the head with 3 pointed arches decorated with blind tracery. The headstone commemorates Hannah Wimshurst, died 1813. Bodystone to the east.

Form a good group with 2 chest tombs to the south (q.v.) within an outstanding churchyard.
