GV II
Farmhouse, formerly a mansion house. Late C17, probably 1677 (date plaque), with later additions. Stone rubble, painted at the front. Slate roof. Two storeys, with single-storey additions at either side. Four-square double-depth plan, the rear range covered with a pair of roofs set at right-angles to the front and hipped. Front three windows wide. Doorway in centre of ground storey has chamfered lintel with scroll-stops; flat hood on shaped timber brackets, having above it a later, slated pent roof. Above this again a slate plaque with date 1761. Windows have flat arches with voussoirs; 3-light windows with lightly- moulded wood mullions that could be original, but with C19 4-pane glazing and centre 4-pane timber casements. Coved wood eaves cornice. Front range has in each gable a projecting stone chimney-stack with offsets and tapered top, heightened in both cases with a brick shaft. At rear of right-hand wall a similar stack, but with no projection. In centre of rear wall a stone tablet with initials ACT and date 1677 above. Interior: front door leads into entrance-hall with plain early or mid C19 wooden stair. One room on either side, both with chamfered ceiling- beam, those in left-hand room with scroll-stops, those in right-hand room with run-out stops. Latter room has fitted early C18 cupboard with raised-and-fielded panelled doors having sheped strap-hinges. Right-hand rear room has fireplace with chamfered wood lintel (mutilated) having scroll-stops. Original fireplaces probably concealed under plaster on both storeys. Upper storey not inspected.
