1886 and 1892 and 1893. By J. Huckerby for F. Wilkinson. Brick
with slate, asbestos, felt and concrete tile roofs. Ashlar and
white brick dressings. Chamfered dentillated eaves. Crenellated
towers. White brick crosslets and dressings. Single, 2 and 3
storeys, 10 plus 3 bays. Irregular L plan. Windows are pointed
wooden casements and iron casements with segmental heads.
Factory has to left, stair enclosure with a single opening on
each floor. To west, adjoining lean-to winding shop with central
door. To its left, casement flanked by single doors. To its
right, 2 casements. Above, 2 floors each with 6 casements and
single hoist door. Stepped central gable with cross finial and
clock. South gable and rear elevation have regular fenestration.
Adjoining printing room, to south west, has stepped south west
gable with crosslets and 2 storey lean-to wings. Above, 2
casements, and above again, 3 casements, the central one largest.
North side has 4 casements and door to right on each floor.
Adjoining gateway has 2 octagonal piers with chamfered plinths,
bands, crosslets and parapets. Pair of ornate wrought iron
gates. Adjoining waiting room to left, single storey, 4 bays,
has 4 pointed openings and crenellated parapet. Ref. Mason, S.
