II
House. C16 or C17. Timber framed, rendered to south and east. Roof of plain tile and thatch, to north end half hipped. One storey and attic. Three bays, with stack dividing centre and north bays; single storey outshut to north with lean-to roof, very likely C19. One gabled dormer to east elevation and west elevation. Plank door to north bay, segmental-arched window to south, rebuilt to late C18 or early C18 design; window with diamond mullions to north return, attic storey. Rafter ends of early date remain to north bay, rebuilt to centre and south bays. West elevation has studding, trenched, curved braces to centre and south bays; diagonal bracing to north bay and rectangular framing to north return. Roof of clasped purlin type, the collars and tie beam to the north return slighter that the rest. Interior: south and centre bays with chamfered axial beam; bridging joists of slight dimensions. Partitions of studded and braced framing; peg holes to posts of partition wall facing south bay. Inglenook to back stock. The evidence is contradictory and difficult to interpret. It is likely that the south and centre bays were built first, with or without a floor. The stock and north bay came later. The roof tie beams and collars to the south gable end, south and centre bays all earlier in date than the beams in the north bay; a reroofing seems likely, but it is impossible to tell the sequence of addition. It has been suggested that the south and centre bays were originally open to the roof and floored at a later date.
