Details
SULHAMSTEAD SULHAMSTEAD HILL (north-east side SU 66 NW 3/32 The Old Rectory (formerly listed as The Rectory) 14.4.67 - II House. Early C18 with circa 1900 alterations and additions. Tuck pointed red brick with hipped tile roof. 2 storeys and attic. Plaster plat band, moulded wooden cornice, coped parapet with embrasures for 2 flat-topped dormers with 2-light casements, end stack to left, and stack off-centre to right. 5 bays; glazing bar sashes with exposed wooden boxes. Central 4- panelled door with rectangular overlight, and doorcase consisting of reeded architrave, Doric pilasters, and cut brackets supporting boxed triangular pediment additions set back to left. Later projecting segmental bays to right and rear. Interior: 2-flight dog-leg staircase with square newels, turned balusters, and moulded handrail; fireplaces with lugged architraves and pulvinated friezes; Shell niche buffet.
