Details

OLD BOND STRER2, W1 TQ 2980 MW 70/201 (east side) Nos 23 and 23A GV II House, now shops and offices. Early C18, refronted c.1840. Flemish bond brick; slate mansard roof rebuilt to rear; brick end stack. Double-depth plan . 4 storeys; 3 window range. C20 shop front to left of stone Edwardian doorcase, with Tuscan half columns to plain entablature and egg and dart cornice. First floor French windows, second floor plate glass sashes and third floor C20 windows are set in mid C19 stucco architraves, which have bracketed cornices and central pediment to first floor and cornices and bracketed cills to second floor; late C19 balcony railings; moulded stucco cornice. Interior: early C18 open-well staircase from first floor, with square newels, moulded handrail and elaborately turned balusters set on open string. Rear room of ground floor has early C18 enriched plaster cornices to ceiling. Early C18 moulded skirting to stair hall (which has late C19 bolection-moulded panels to lower stage) and to second floor room on right which has enriched plaster cornice, panelled dado, panelled doors set in moulded architraves and C18 fireplace.
