Details
WHALTON A 696 NZ 17 NW NZ 112783 (West side, off) 6/141 Belsay Tilery, old tile kilns II Tile kilns, third quarter of C19. Roughly-squared stone with tooled-and-margined quoins, except for brick south and internal walls; roof partly pantile and partly stone slate, with brick stacks. 3 adjacent horizontal kilns. Triple- gabled south elevation shows 3 blocked round arches, with arched opening flanked by small blind arches in each blocking wall. Central and left kilns have stacks on rear gables; all kilns have 3 small brick ridge vents. Interior; barrel- vaulted kilns with small segment-headed furnace arches at rear.
