7/3 Barn approx. 10 metres west of Home Farm Farmhouse

II

Barn with integral stables, byre and dovecote. Earlier C18, built as part of Kippax Park home farm. Magnesian limestone rubble with quoins, stone slate roof. Large rectangular 7-bay plan, effectively double-depth by inclusion of stables and byre on the south side (to the yard), the roof carried down over them, with a short wing continued at each end of this side under the same roof. The centre bay of the south side is a porch formed by the void between the stables and the byre, leading to a segmental-headed wagon arch with double doors, the approach flanked by flights of stone steps set on hand-made brick which lead to loft doors. To the left and right are the stables and byre respectively, each with 2 doors and 2 windows at ground floor (a,b,b,a, and a,b,a,a) and 3 blocked square windows above. The north side (the architectural front) has a slightly projected gabled centre bay containing a round-headed wagon arch with impost bands, voussoirs, a cruciform breather each side, and an oculus in a oeil-de-boeuf in the pediment; otherwise, slit breathers at ground floor and cruciform above. Hipped roof with a small opening to the dovecote in the centre of the south side. Former cottage at west end demolished.

Interior: 9 queen-post roof trusses; centre bay lofted with very large chamfered beams supporting a lath and clay floor to the dovecote.
