Cottage. Circa early C17, remodelled in circa early C19 and
extended in late C20. Timber-framed with red brick nogging,
partly rebuilt in Flemish bond red brick and extended in
brick. Thatched roof with gabled ends. Projecting gable end
stack with rendered set-offs and barrel-shaped oven at base
with tile roof.
PLAN: 2-room plan, the left hand [south] room extended in
circa early C19 at the left end to accommodate a new stack and
oven. In late C20 a wing was built at the right [north] end
projecting at the rear.
EXTERIOR: 1 storey and attic. Asymmetrical 2-window east
front, plus 1-window range C20 brick extension on right. Left
of front and end wall rebuilt in brick. C20 3-light casement
with glazing bars French casement on right. 2 gabled dormers
with 2-light casements with glazing bars. At rear [west]
timber frame rear wall on right and large C20 brick wing on
left with porch in angle.
INTERIOR: Left hand [south] room has chamfered axial beam with
hollow-step stops, the left end on former mid-rail with
redundant mortices supported on console brackets, one with
guilloche pattern carving. Circa early C19 brick fireplace
with cambered brick arch and oven. Smaller right hand [north]
room has closely-spaced unchamfered axial joists, the right
hand ends supported on blocks on chamfered half-beam with
hollow-step stop at one end. Wall-framing with tension-braces
exposed. 2-bay clasped-purlin roof with wind-braces exposed in
attic chambers. Apex of roof not accessible.
