Walls and gateways to front court of Betteshanger House

Walls and gate. Late C19. George Devey. Brown brick with stone finials
and coping. Front courtyard enclosed by low wall with some flint and
ragstone, extending about 20 metres to east of House, and then 50 metres or
so to east, with semi-circular sweeps to include entrances to courtyard.
Iron lampstands stand up on the wall. At eastern end the wall is about 5
feet with ball finials, and double leaf wrought iron gates in semi-circular
arched doorway, leading to a small sunk garden bounded by low brick wall
with cornice and ball finials to low corner piers. Flights of steps give
access to the south and east garden fronts of Betteshanger House.
