GV II
Round building of unknown purpose. Possible uses include: a malthouse, a smoking
chamber, an ash-house, an ice-house and a pigsty. Probably C18, possibly older.
Granite rubble with some dressed granite.
Plan: Round plan with doorway in its south side. This side has at some time been
partly rebuilt so that externally the wall is straight where its thickness has been
reduced otherwise the building has been unaltered and high stone corbelled roof (with
central capstone) springs from the very thick rubble walls.
Exterior: Single storey. Overgrown rubble walls adjoin 2 rubble and earth hedges (at
rear left and on the right). South front has high doorway with remains of original
corbelled arched head on the right (this arch is similar to those found on the outer
doorways to C18 ovens in Cornwall). There is a later monolithic jambstone further
into the doorway on the right with iron pintails for hanging a door.
Interior: The earth floor is said to have some trace of ash and the walls and roof
appear to be blackened.
