Details

LYDDINGTON MAIN STREET SP 8697-9797 (west side) 9/75 10.11.55 No 31 (Priest House) (formerly listed as Priest's House). GV II

House. Stone tablet inscribed "Caelu PATria christ Via RR 1626." Altered C19 and mid C20. For Richard Rudd, vicar. Coursed rubble with alternate bands of ironstone and pale limestone, the left gable rebuilt in red brick. Welsh slate roof, brick chimney to left. 2 storeys, one bay. Ground floor has narrow window to right and wider window to left, both with ovolo-moulded stone surrounds and moulded cornices, the right opening formerly a doorway. These openings now contain C20 barred wooden casements with opening top-lights. 4-light window to centre of first floor with chamfered stone mullions and C20 glazing. Paired barred wooden casement inserted C20 to first floor left. Entry to right with chamfered stone surround and recessed C20 door. Lean-to to right with stone coping and C20 casement. Said to contain fireplace with 4-centred stone arch.
