Details
WEM RURAL C.P. ASTON SJ 52 NW 11/122 Aston House - 28.10.60 GV II Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 or early C17 with later additions and alterations. C20 planted timber frame with rendered infill concealing original timber frame; rendered plinth and slate roof. H-plan. 2 storeys and attic. Framing: entirely planted but gables have slight overhangs supported on carved corner brackets. Central 2-storey porch now with hipped roof retains wooden benches supported on carved C17 brackets and original nail-studded inner door in moulded wood surround. Late C19 mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights to ground and first floor of gables and small C19 hip-roofed dormer in roof slope to centre of hall range. Prominent red brick ridge stack in 2 sections, to right of hall range and axial Grinshill stone ridge stack with triple rebated shafts and moulded capping and base to left. Interior: inspection not possible at time of resurvey (March 1986) but likely to be of interest.
