Details
CALDECOTT MILL LANE SP 8693-8793 11/27 Manor House. GV II
House. C17, said to be dated JS 1695 on now illegible plaque, refronted c.1850, remainder with C19 and C20 alterations and extensions. Mostly of coursed ironstone rubble with some limestone dressings, the main front block with limestone ashlar facing to small part of rear. Collyweston slate roof to front block; rear wing re-roofed with C20 tiles. T-plan. Front wing is of 2 storeys with blind attic, and 3 bays. C19 front has brick parapet with moulded stone coping, 3-pane sashes to first floor, and 4-pane sashes flanking central double doors with marginal glazing. Gables have limestone copings and ashlar chimneys with cyma recta cornices. Below chimney on right gable end is an illegible plaque with raised lozenge and cornice. Below this both storeys have blocked 2-light windows with ovolo-moulded limestone mullions and casement cornices. Left gable has 2 blocked attic windows with similar surrounds and cornices. Rear of left bay is ashlar faced with moulded stone eaves and C19 2-light wooden casement to first floor. Lower rear wing is of one storey and attic and 2 bays, with brick chimney to gable end and ashlar chimney with additional brick flues to centre. C19 3-light wooden casements, those to ground floor with shaped stone lintels and triple keyblocks, those to attic in hipped eaves-line dormers. C20 lean-to porch to left shelters good C17 doorway with old 2-panelled door in moulded and stopped stone surround with cyma recta cornice. Gable end has ironstone coping and ovolo-moulded mullion windows, of 3-lights, with quadrant cornices. Interior of this wing has stop-chamfered spine beam with bracket at one end, and fireplace with moulded stone jambs. (M Neenan, Caldecott, 1954).
