Details
TQ 2981 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER SOHO SQUARE, W1 58/6 Nos. 10 and 10A 5.2.70 GV II Terraced town house. One of two surviving houses original to the square, c.1676 built as 2 houses,united in 1696, later alterations. Stock brick, tiled roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 6 windows wide. Rusticated stucco ground floor, the left hand part altered for entrance to C20 Lysbeth Hall with 2 doorways, that adjoining hall entrance with C19 cornice on consoles and 2 renewed segmental arched sash windows. Upper floors, flanked by stucco quoin pilasters, have recessed glazing bar sashes, with exposed boxing, under flat gauged arches. Stucco sill courses carved over quoin pilasters, C19 cornice and parapet. Cast iron area railings. Interior retains the plan of 2 large rooms back and front surviving on upper floors and with virtually intact original dog leg staircase to right hand rear, parallel with back wall, closed string, turned balusters, heavy newels and handrail; 1st floor ante-room retains substantial element of early C18 decoration with pedimented carved doorcases, panelling and cornices etc.
