TQ 2782 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PRINCE ALBERT ROAD, NWl 23/6 (east Side) 5.2.70 Nuffield Lodge (formerly Grove Lodge) G.V. I Formerly Grove Lodge. Regent's Park villa. 1822-24,by Decimus Burton as bachelor residence for G B Greenhough; heightened and turned into family house by Henry Marley Burton in 1877 and interior murals painted c1909 by the then owner Sigismund Goetze. Stucco; slate roof. The least altered of the Regent's Park villas set in grounds separated from Park by the Grand Union Canal. Chaste but varied Grecian villa design built on a cruciform plan of 2 storeys with recessed single storey bays in the angles and single storey bow to east front, the angle bays and bow heightened by Marley Burton to complete the house as a uniform block. 2 storeys and basement. West entrance front 7 windows wide with blind outer panels and advanced centre bay incorporating porch with Greek Doric columns in antis. South garden front of 5 windows with centre 3 screened by giant tetrastyle portico with fluted Ionic columns and pediment against parapet. East garden front of 5 windows with 3-window central bow dressed with Doric pilaster order on each floor. North front with outer windows flanking advanced centre with tripartite ground floor window and 2 windows above. Recessed sashes, with glazing bars on ground floor, mostly in eared architraves with consoled cornices to those on ground floor. Very fine interior with central, domed and colonnaded rotunda and vaulted vestibule; drawing room murals and vestibule vault paintings by Sigismund Goetze; Graeco-Roman enriched mouldings, statuary marble chimneypieces and later elaborations in Dixhuitiime taste; etc.
