TQ 2781 SE and 2881 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PORTMAN STREET, Wl 54/71 ;55/51 10.9.54 orthern part of Mostyn Hotel (formerly listed as No 16) G.V. II End of terrace former town house. c.1768-70 with C.19 alterations; possibly by Abraham and Samuel Adams, who built a number of houses on the south east and west sides of the adjoining Portman Square. Brown brick; slate roof, 4 storeys and dormered mansard, on basement. 5 windows wide with long return to Seymour Street. Semicircular arched doorway in 2nd bay from left under C.19 stuccoed Doric porch. Recessed sashes under flat gauged arches. Stucco plat bands and 1st floor sill band; cornice over 2nd floor and cornice capping to parapet. Cast iron balconettes to 1st floor. C.19 cast iron area railings. The return has similar details but the ground floor has stucco rustication. Interior retaining some good delicate stuccowork ceilings and mouldings in the Adam manner. Southern part to Bryanston Square, is not of special interest.
