MARE STREET E8 1. 5013 (East Side) -------------- Old tower of former Church of St Augustine TQ 3435 19/368 24.4.51. I
2. Tall tower of 4 stages in Kentish ragstone with diagonal buttresses and high plinth. Canon Clarke gives an early C16 date, but the body of the tower may be older. On east side a doorway with 4-centred arch, hollow-chamfered, with nook shafts. Restored traceried bell openings; and lower window with late Perpendicular tracery.
