Details

HEMSWORTH BARNSLEY ROAD SE41SW (north side) 5/46 Nos, 28 and 30 - GV II

House. Now 2 dwellings. Dated 1773 in pediment over door; coursed squared sandstone, stone slate roof. Double-depth 3-unit plan. Three storeys and 3 bays, formerly symmetrical, in Classical style; raised quoins to left corner (other corner now covered by adjoining building); central doorway with moulded architrave, and pediment on consoles, a small panel in the pediment inscribed "1773"; ground floor windows altered (modern bow to left, canted bay to right); 1st floor has tall vertical-rectangular windows, 2nd floor has almost square windows, all with raised plain surrounds except that in centre at 1st floor, which has a small raised keystone, and all now top-hung casements with glazing bars, except that to right at 1st floor which is side- hung. Plain eaves band. Hipped roof and side-wall chimney. (Right hand front corner overlapped by adjoining building at ground and 1st floors). Interior: No. 30 (centre and left) internally remodelled; No 28 not inspected. Forms group with No. 32 to left.
