Details

TQ 2980 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY W1 70/77 (north side) 30-5-72 Nos 39 and 40 and Nos 41 to 46 consec. GV II 2 complementary blocks of offices with shops flanking the south end of Sackville Street. 1931, by George J. Skipper but executed with modifications by Yates, Cook and Darbyshire from 1937. Portland stone and red brick, slate roofs. Palladian sub-Adam style, the opposed facades of pavilions to Sackville Street as temple fronts on rusticated basement storeys with the longer sides to Piccadilly as formal return elevations. 4 main storeys and tall attic. Nos 39 and 40 with 3 + 3 bays to Sackville Street and 4 to Piccadilly. Nos 41 to 46 with 3 bays to Sackville Street and 11 bays to Piccadilly. Recessed glazing bar sash windows, flat arches. String courses and cornices, etc. Included for group interest only. Survey of London; vol XXXI
