Details
TQ 3079 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PARLIAMENT STREET, SW1 92/29 (east side) 5.2.70 No 43 G.V. II* Terraced town house. c1753. Grey stock brick, slate roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide. Entrance to right with panelled door and fanlight recessed in wooden doorcase of three-quarter Doric columns, dosserets and open bracketed pediment, the Doric capitals returned in as architrave doorhead and acting as imposts to archivolt with keystone. Recessed sashes under gauged flat arches. Plat band and sill band compose 1st floor pseudo-pedestal. Stone cyma recta modillion cornice and blocking course. Late C19 cast iron area railings. Good interior with cut string staircase with rare Chinese Chippendale fretwork balustrade, moulded cornices, doorcases and shutters and main rooms with fine statuary marble chimneypieces probably by Sir Henry Cheere, etc. With No 44 (q.v.) the only surviving terrace house of the original Parliament Street opened in 1749-50.
