Details
NEWHALL C.P. WHITCHURCH ROAD SJ 64 SW 7/69 Brown's Bank Farmhouse (formerly listed as 12.1.67 Brown's Bank) - II Farmhouse. Dated 1759 on datestone which reads Robt. and Alice/Brown 1759. Red Flemish bond brick with black headers and plain tile roof. Two storeys with attic. Entrance front: lower portion to left of three bays with central lugged, moulded door surround containing a six-panel door, the lower four panels being raised and fielded, the upper two glazed. The extreme left hand window is of 3 C19 lights with a cambered head and wooden sill and to the right is a mezzanine window of 2 lights with a cambered head. To the right of this is a projecting gabled wing with 2-light ground and first-floor cambered headed windows divided by a band of 2 bricks depth. To the gable are stone springers and stone coping with a band of 2 bricks depth dividing this first floor from the gable. Chimney stacks above left hand gable and to right of centre. Left hand gable end has bands of 2 bricks depth dividing the floors and a further similar band to the middle of the gable. Pair of C19 French windows to left of ground floor and two 2-light cambered-headed windows to the first floor and two blocked square openings to the gable. Rear: at right, masked by C20 glazed outshut, is a 3-light cambered headed ground floor window with a similar window above and to the right of this is a blocked 3-light cambered-headed window with flat-arched head. The gable at left has 2-light ground and first floor cambered-headed windows of 2 lights. Brick bands divide the floors. Two-light window to the gable which has stone springers and a coping. Interior: To the ground and first floors are doors with H and butterfly hinges. Chamfered ceiling beams to ground floor and inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer.
