LOWER HEYFORD OXFORD CANAL SP4824 10/71 Bridge at junction with Station Road, plus approach walls. GV II

Canal bridge. Circa 1790, altered C19. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. Wide segmental arch with ashlar voussoirs springs from projecting wedge-shaped imposts, linked to a projecting keyblock by a plain hood. Both keyblocks are inscribed "7", but a cast-iron plate on the north face is inscribed "206". South parapet has been altered in alignment to correspond with an adjacent later bridge (not included). North parapet extends approximately 40 metres to east as a rubble retaining wall and links with the front garden wall of Canal Cottage, Station Road (q,v.); western end of parapet curves round beside a ramped approach from the towpath.
