Details
KINGS CLIFFE HALL YARD TL0097 (West side) 12/121 The Rectory 23/05/67 (Formerly listed as The Rectory (formerly The Old Mill House) GV II Mill house, now Rectory. Mid C18 probably by Edward Applegarth, extended C20. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings with attic. Main front is a 3-window range. Central 6-panel part-glazed door has rectangular fanlight with glazing bars and plain ashlar surround. Early C19 flat-roofed porch, with pillars. 6-paned sash windows with ashlar surrounds and keyblocks. Ashlar quoins, raised band between floors and below eaves. 3, gabled, roof dormers with sash windows. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar end stacks. C20 single-storey extension set back to left. Rear elevation has catslide roof with dormer windows, central doorway and casement windows under wood lintels. Interior not inspected but staircase said to have shaped tread brackets and Chinese fret balustrade, now boxed in. Room to left of entrance has plain panelling. Room to right of entrance has blocked external door in side wall, giving access to the adjacent Apethorpe Mill (Parish Hall) (q.v.).
