House, converted into a pair of cottages. Circa mid-late C17, altered and extended in circa late C19. Sandstone rubble with a dressed sandstone front wall. Asbestos tile roof with gabled ends. Dressed sandstone stacks at the gable ends stone weathering, the left with brick shaft; brick axial stack to right of centre. PLAN: The original 2-room plan house comprises the kitchen on the left [NW] with a large gable-end fireplace and a smaller room on the right [now centre], possibly originally unheated. In circa late C19 a 2-storey 1-room plan extension on the right end and single-storey outshut on the left end were added. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window SW front. C19 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. 2 plank doors near centre. Outshut set back slightly at left end with plank door on front. Various small casements with glazing bars and 2 plank doors at rear. INTERIOR: The 2 centre rooms [the original house] have chamfered cross-beams without stops; the larger left room has a big chamfered stone fireplace with a massive stone lintel and a C19 range and oven; smaller right hand room has fireplace with an unchamfered stone lintel and later cream oven to right. Between the two rooms a timber-framed partition, which serves as the only truss, with a tie-beam, diagonal struts to the collar; studs above the tie-beam intact but those below, between attic chambers, have been replaced; head of doorway cut into soffit of tie-beam; trenched purlins appear to have been re-set; trenched diagonally-set ridgepiece; most of the common rafters intact. Small grates in both chambers. Some C17 plank doors survive.
