GV II

Garden building. Thought to be c.1700 and attributed to Christopher
Kempster, a local quarryman who made very good in Wren's employment.
Rubble with coursed and soured dressings. 2 storeys; coped gable to
front. On 1st floor an arched recess approached by stone steps from left
(landing with arched door having quoined voussoirs). Triangular-headed
doorway in recess with label. Below landing of stairs is an unusual
masons mark . On ground floor is an octagonal window in panelled
spanels and square surround (like the Great House q.v.). Lunette window
to N return. Note: the plan is slightly skew, normally an indication of
late dating.
