WHIPPINGHAM ROAD 1. 5270 Whippingham South Lodge to Barton Manor, Barton Manor Estate SZ 59 SW 7/112 25.1.72. II GV 2. Circa 1850. Part of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's reconstruction of the Barton Manor Estate. One of a pair of identical lodges each side of the drive. T-shaped. One storey and attics in Neo-Jacobean style. Built of stone rubble with stone quoins, chamfered coping to walls. Steeply pitched tiled roofs having gable end with gables facing road. Central ridge. Grouped Neo-Jacobean red brick chimney stacks. In the gable ends facing road with saddlestones are 2-light attic casements and 3-light ground floor casement, stone mullioned. Inner fronts have 2-light casements, stone mullioned, and central projecting stone gabled porches. Royal Coat of Arms and those of Albert in gable ends and each side on 1st floor level to inner fronts, all in stone. Wings of same height to north and south. Picturesque.
