Details
LAYER DE LA HAYE FIELD FARM LANE 1. 5214 TL 91 NE 17/10 18.5.79 Blind Knights II* 2. Early C14 hall house with later alterations. Timber-framed and plastered with red plain tile roof. Two storeys. 1:2:1:1:1 window range on ground floor, 1:3:3:1 on first floor all modern casements. Central section is one full bay of early C14 hall, with massive arch bracing to tie beam, 4 armed crown post, and heavily sooted rafters. Now one and a half storeys. A first floor has been inserted, presumably C16 and there is a gabled dormer at both front and rear. Immediately to west is a cabled and jettied crosswing, and adjoining range, all 2 storey, and added C20. At east end of hall, is early C14 gabled and jettied crosswing. Most of the frame is exposed internally, including stop chamfered beams, and 2 original ogee doorheads. Original roof remains "with 4 armed crown posts and centre purlin. To the east is a further long wall jettied wing of early C15, with frame exposed internally, semi-circular headed entrance doorway, and simple 2 armed crown post roof. Large rear chimney stack, with C15 and C16 brickwork. (RCHM 3).
