TINTAGEL TINTAGEL SX 08 NE 4/191 Group of 7 tombchests and 3 head stones including those of W Johns, S Filgey, M Fuge, D Panter and S Arthur 10-18 metres south of south transept of Church of St Materiana GV II Group of 7 tombchests and 3 headstones. 1692 - circa C19. Tombchest of William Johns who died in 1741. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Verse. Weep brethren weep over your friend Below one grateful tear On him which was unto his end True to his Country dear By which he stood like Sion Mount Till breath his life did end For many could not him corrupt He was true to his friend Headstone of Susanna Filgey, daughter of Joseph Hige who died in 1743. Slate headstone with shaped head, supported on stone rubble base to provide shelter in exposed churchyard. Headstone of Mary Magdalene, wife of John Fuge who died in 1773. Slate rectangular headstone. Tombchest of William - who died in 1730. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Inscribed with marginal inscription, verse in central panel and coat of arms. Tombchest of John Arthur. 1692. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Marginal inscription and verse in central panel. Upper and lower case lettering in italic script. Tombchest of John Parsons. 1694. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Unusual layout with marginal inscription. Upper and lower case lettering in italic script. Headstone of Dorothy, widow of William Panter; midwife who died in 1765. Slate headstone with nowy head. Inscription with verse beginning 'On Hamlet's Babes I did Attend . . ' Tombchest of Sarah, daughter of William and Henrietta Arthur who died in 1762. Stone rubble chest with rectangular slate lid. Tombchest of Arthur - who died probably in 1779.
