Terraced town houses. c.1810-11 (with some mid C.19 alterations and fronts of Nos. 55 and 56 rebuilt in facsimile), by J.T. Parkinson, as part of his Montagu-Bryanston Square development for the Portman Estate. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors; concealed slate roofs. 5 storeys and basements apart from 4 storeys and basements to Nos. 55 and 56. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways to right with panelled doors in pilaster jambs, No. 52 with Greek Doric columns, and fanlights. Nos. 52 to 54 and 57 to 59 have 2-window segmental bows to ground floors, rising into 1st floor on Nos. 58 and 59 and in to 2nd floor on No. 57, with 3 windows, the 2nd floor of that of No. 57 with Ionic columns, crowning cornices; Nos. 52 and 54 have mid C.19, stucco, 2 storeyed canted bays above segmental bows finished off with cornices and blocking courses; otherwise recessed sashes under flat gauged arches. Plat band finishing off ground floor stuccowork; stucco sill band to 4th floors of all except Nos. 55 and 56 which are finished off with stone coped parapet. Crowning stucco cornices and blocking course to rest. Continuous, cast iron, geometric patterned balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with acorn or pineapple finials.
