Manor House
GV II
House. Possibly late C16. Slate stone rubble. Rag Delabole slate roof on left and
lower Spanish slate roof on right, both with gable ends. Stone rubble axial stack on
left where this house adjoins later cottage (qv cottage adjoining Manor House on
west), axial stone rubble stack between 2 ranges and stone rubble stack on right hand
gable end.
Plan considerably altered with C19 and C20 remodelling and the original arrangement
is uncertain. It is possible that the left hand range is earlier originally
consisting of a 2 room and central cross or through passage plan, the passage
indicated by blocked opening on front. However a turreted stair in a stair
projection to the rear of the probable right hand room appears to have provided
access to the chamber above the right-hand range, thus suggesting that if the right
hand range was an extension, it is probably early C17. If alternatively the right
hand range is contemporary and the original plan was that of a 3 room and cross or
through passage plan, the right hand inner room would have been considerably larger
than the hall. In circa C19 the possible earlier entrance was partly blocked and a
lobby entrance was probably inserted.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front with masonry in left hand range rebuilt above
ground floor, probably when eaves were raised and straight joint between right and
left hand ranges directly above entrances. Ground floor: 2 C20 PVC windows with
dressed stone segmental arches, the second window in a blocked door opening. Circa
C19 stone rubble porch with gabled roof and C20 PVC window to right. First floor
with two 16-pane horned sashes on left and 16-pane horned sash in half dormer with
raking roof to right.
Interior remodelled with ceiling beams renewed and partitions altered. Newel stair
near central axial stack. First floor and roof structure not accessible.
