II

House. Dated 1726. Coursed squared rubble sandstone with quoins and dressings to door and window openings. Slate roof laid to diminishing courses. End ridge stacks, that to the left side square on plan, and serving the principal halo Linear plan, with central entry , and added lean-to against left gable. Front: three bays; two storeys with central doorway within quoined surround and deep lintel, all chamfered. The lintel is inscribed "L.E.1726 II .C 19 6-panel door with integral 2-pane overlight. To the left, a 3-light flush-mullioned window, and above, an altered, lower 3-light window with 1 mullion removed. Further left on ground floor a single light fire window. To the right of the doorway, a glazing bar sash window, 6/6 panes, with a flush stone surround. Above, a 2/2 pane sash window. Over doorway, a 2/2 pane sash within flush surround. Interior: not inspected, but known to contain features of interest, including an early staircase and first floor C18 or early C19 dog grate in a moulded surround with overmantle shelf.
A complete and little altered early C18 house where both vernacular and polite detailing are present, and where a transitional p]an form seems little disturbed.
