II
Former lodge to Westwood Hall. Dated 1852. Almost certainly by the architects of the Hall, Hadfield, Weightman and Goldie, for John Davenport. Red sandstone ashlar with plain-tiled roofs. Jacobean style. EXTERIOR: tower over former driveway, with 2-storeyed single-window range alongside. Segmental archway in tower, with hoodmould over, and paired string course above, defining upper stage. Date in low-relief between the string courses, 'Anno Domini 1852'. 5-light mullioned window with round-arched central light over archway and leaded lights. 2-storeyed flanking wing has 4-light mullioned window to ground floor, with 3-light mullion above and gabled dormer with heavy kneelers to copings to rear, the present entrance in a later wing beyond. Original entrance from inside the tower. INTERIOR: not inspected.
