GV II

House, now shop. Late C16/early C17, with earlier, C15
structure at rear. Timber-framed and plastered, old tile
roofs, with red brick chimneystack on outshoot.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, front elevation has flush-set 3 light
small-paned wood casement on first floor and ground floor has
early C19 cornice with flat modillion soffit and dentil course
above fascia, which cants outwards at right and has splayed
corner at left, with entrance door from side passage. C20
glazed door and oriel shop window carried on brackets above
yellow brick riser. Scattered fenestration of small paned wood
casement windows on long elevation to left had (east) side
passage, including 2 early C20 canted oriel bays on first
floor.
INTERIOR: suggests this building was probably a single bay of
a longer structure to west, demolished c1840 for construction
of Nos 29 & 31 (qv). Ground and first floors now opened out to
continuous display areas, long jowled posts, beams and some
bracing visible to tie beam of present party wall to No.29.
Roof has halved and pegged rafters and side purlins. Long rear
outshoot contains earlier C15 framed structure, much altered,
most evident at first-floor level.
