House, now factory. Early C18, refronted early/mid C19, and
interior of ground floor remodelled early C20 to form factory
workshop. Yellow stock brick, Flemish bond, front, steeply
pitched old tile roof behind parapet. Double-depth, possibly
originally double pile plan, 4 bays with side entrance.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. First floor has 4 recessed
16-pane sash windows under rubbed brick flat arches, first
floor sill level stone band, stone parapet coping; ground
floor has 4 similar windows. Flank elevation (east) has 3 C19
bell pattern rainwater heads at parapet level.
Right-hand rear (north-east) elevation retains single flush
set sash window with architrave surround under red brick
rubbed flat arch.
To roof, 3 box sash dormers, brick chimneystacks at left and
right. Dark red brick right-hand (east) first floor flank
elevation above cement-rendered ground floor, and part rear
red brick first floor.
Extensive early-mid C20 single storey factory buildings abut
the rear wall, not of special interest.
INTERIOR: much altered particularly on ground floor which has
been opened out to form a single workroom. Fragments of C18
and C19 panelling and cornices remain around the perimeter
walls, and the principal chimneybreasts of the front rooms
survive against the outer walls. Around right-hand wall and
chimneybreast and along front wall to middle of second window
from left, early/mid C19 panelled dado and plaster scotia and
reed cornice; left from this point mid C18 deep double cyma
entablature wood cornice, panelled walls and panelled upper
chimneybreast, though fireplace blocked and surround removed.
To right of fireplace is way through to No.32, and right again
the cornice to the rear left (west) ground floor room picks up
the reeded pattern across its chimneybreast. In rear right
(northeast) corner staircase partitioned off.
Recessed entrance from east wall; lowest flight of stair rises
along rear wall, and turns at right angles to first floor
above quarter landing. Open string construction, with nosed
treads with carved brackets, curtail tread at foot, fluted
Tuscan column newels, balusters of irontwist columns on bobbin
urns, with square section plinth and cap blocks, moulded


handrails, ramped to first floor. More elaborate tread
brackets and different proportions of balusters indicate that
the lowest flight is a C19 reworking of the original mid C18
dogleg plan open well stair which rises above the first floor.
This has a panelled dado, with baluster and rail details
generally as described above. 2 principal 2-bay front rooms
have some C19 features; rear rooms have C18 wood cornices.
Attics with much C20 subdivision. Roof not accessible for
inspection.
SUDSIDIARY FEATURES: front forecourt with early C19 cast-iron
railings. Square balusters, with flattened urn finials, curved
return end at left to front corner of No.32 (qv), butted to
yellow brick curved boundary wall at right, set in Portland
stone curb. Second bay from right has gate, now fixed shut.
