House, now shop with flats above. Late C17, early C18, roof
raised at front early C19 and shopfronts inserted late C19.
Red brick Flemish bond, Welsh slated roof, with panelled eaves
canted on flat cut brackets at front. Old tiled roof at rear,
with 2 tall brick chimneys, one truncated.
EXTERIOR: 4 bay facade, entry second bay from left but ground
floor opened out removing corridor to rear staircase. First
floor has 4 slightly recessed 12-pane sash windows with
architrave surrounds beneath rubbed red brick flat arches.
Second floor has 3 squat 6-pane sashes, blank wall panel
second from right. Ground floor has full width shopfront,
closed heavy timber-framed plate glass window at left, glazed
door second bay from left, wide triple light plate glass
window at right, all under full width canted fascia, with
blind boxes above, and stuccoed stall risers below.
Rear elevation largely blank with plastered gable stair turret
between two chimneys and late C19 single and 2-storey Welsh
slated outshoot at right (west).
INTERIOR: ground floor opened out, ceiling beams cased, red
brick exposed in end walls. Exposed timber framing with
primary bracing, mortices for missing bracing and
carpenters'marks, with later brick infill appears to relate to
No.10 adjoining (qv). Fireplace on rear wall, that on right
having red brick cheeks and a cavetto moulded timber bressumer
with peg holes, which appears to be a reset length of tie
beam, formerly with arch braces.
C20 access to cellar from rear outshoot, 2 main rooms with
brick crosswall below line of former west wall of ground floor
corridor. West cellar has brick floor and walls, substantial
timbers, with chamfered binders to floors above, arched hearth
supports to ground floor fireplaces, 2 substantial brick
vaults with segmental arches beyond east wall.
Upper floors and roof not inspected.
