GV II
Houses, now private brewery museum and hospitality suite. Late
C15/early C16 (No.14) and C17 (No.12), altered, and restored
1940s, after bomb damage. Timber-framed and plastered,
underbuilt in brick and plastered, below old tile roofs.
Central square red brick stack has 4 clustered octagonal
shafts with oversailing courses, C20 red brick stack at left
(north) end of No.14.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. First floor of No.14 jettied with exposed
beam ends, exposed studding and downward curving braces,
together with C20 3-light lattice-leaded wood casement window,
with similar upper light in plastered gable. Ground floor with
single 3-light and one 2-light lattice glazed casement. First
floor of No.12 has two 3-light lattice glazed casements, and
small central 2-light casement. Ground floor with two 3-light
lattice glazed casements, and recessed modern hardwood
battened door right centre; shallow first floor on line of
underbuilt jetty.
Rear elevation with irregularly spaced plain-glazed wood
casement windows, and central C20 glazed door; roof of No.12
sweeps round as hipped end into lower roof of No.14, with
upstand gablet above ridge.
INTERIOR: much altered, particularly during postwar
rebuilding. Cross wing, No.14, has raised first floor, and
truncated crown post roof, with plain post having fore and aft
bracing, roof ceiled at collar level. Position of mullioned
windows and shutter grooves visible. Ground floor has ogee
headed door opening in stud partition. No.12 has narrow
central smoke bay, occupied by brick chimney with restored
altered fireplace openings.
