Semi-detached houses. c1825, with later alteration. Stucco
front, sides and rear outshoots. Hipped Welsh slated roofs
above moulded cornice, with widely spaced modillions, and
central stuccoed multi-flue chimneystack with orange clay
pots.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 4-bay front, with recessed wings,
originally single bay, but with later extensions, creating a
separate small dwelling (No.15) at left, and No.19 extended to
right to link to No.21 (qv). Second floor with 4 recessed
6-pane sash windows; first floor with 4 recessed 12-pane sash
windows above band. Ground floor has 4 recessed 15-pane sash
windows with semicircular heads set within outer arched recess
with projecting impost band. Stucco plinth. Recessed wing at
right has C20 9-pane arched window in ground floor recess,
6-pane sash on first floor, and 6-pane sash on set back second
floor.
2 storey set back wing on left, and linking wing on right,
stucco, Welsh slated roofs, 1 sash window ground floor and
first floor, entrance to No.19 in right-hand wing.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
These houses formed part of a group of similar pairs, some now
altered and linked. They represent the expansion of Hertford
along North Road towards the County Hospital during the late
1820s. It was shown as 'North Crescent' on an 1830 map.
Nos 15 & 17 were listed on 12/04/73.
