House, used as infants' school in C19. C16 and C17, with C19
alterations. Timber-framed and plastered with masonry lining.
Old tiled roofs, with massive central 4 flue red brick chimney
(formerly with 4 octagonal shafts) rebuilt C19 above C17 base
with roll moulded brick cornice. 2 ranges separated by stack
and staircase, cross wing at right is earlier structure, and
the left-hand wing, with rear stair has created a lobby entry
arrangement, later rear catslide wing infilling alongside
stair.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Front elevation has single 2-light small
paned wood casement window on ground floor at left, C20
3-light wood casement windows with divided glazing, first and
ground floor of cross wing at right; slightly recessed central
entrance with early C20 ledged and battened door in C19
surround and small casement window tucked under eaves above.
INTERIOR: ground floor right-hand room has longitudinal
chamfered beam with tongue stop, early C19 fire surround with
C20 grate, 4-panel doors, C19 joinery in sitting room.
Rear hall has C17 panelled cupboard in chimneybreast, early
C18 close string dogleg stair, barleysugar twist on urn
balusters, newel with ball finial and moulded handrail.
Access to bathroom, former back bedroom, from half landing.
First-floor attic bedroom on west has early C18 battened door
rehung on C20 hinges leading to lower level closet alongside
stack which has cupboard with butterfly hinges. Tie beams
visible in front bedroom in cross wing, cut to accommodate
early C20 casement window, C19 fire surround with paterae.
Roof rafters much renewed, particularly above cross wing.
