House, now a hotel. Early C19, altered mid and late C19.
Painted stucco, late C19 mansard roof with decorative
fish-scale slates, hipped to the top and to the left of the
late C19 left wing, 2 late C19 moulded stacks to each return
and one to the left wing. Double-depth plan with 2-storey wing
to the left.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with large late C19 attics; originally
symmetrical 3-window range with a 2-window range left wing.
Early C19 coped parapet; late C19 horned 2/2-pane sash
windows. 3 gabled dormers have decorative bargeboards, finials
and pendants. 2 wide shallow curved bays ; the main facade is
spanned by a fine mid C19 1st-floor cast-iron trellised
balcony and canopy which is supported by 4 pairs of incised
square columns. The door has a semicircular fanlight.
Projecting to the left of the door is a ramped entrance to the
cellar bar. The left wing has a full-height canted bay with a
hipped roof and decorative canopy to the ground-floor window.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
A prominent feature in the townscape, distinguished by its
cast-ironwork.
