GV II
Small country house, now an hotel. Early C19, greatly extended in the C20. Incised Stucco on rubble, rusticated to plinth; dry Delabole slate roof laid in diminishing courses, projecting eaves; 2 axial stuccoed stacks with stepped cornices and original square-on-plan clay pots. Double-depth plan with bowed stair projection at rear centre plus C20 extensions. 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window garden and entrance fronts. 1:1:1-bay garden front has recessed central bay with bowed central glazed projection with its original glazing with horizontal panes and margin panes; original 12-pane sashes with small horns except for later 4-pane sash over bowed window. Entrance front has a central doorway with a door and a distyle porch with fluted columns, segmental arch and a moulded cornice; panelled reveals and original wide 6-panel door with top 2 panels later glazed. Rear not inspected but has original bowed stair sash with glazing bars, visible from inside the stair hall. INTERIOR has fine quality features including moulded and carved ceiling cornices with different details to all rooms inspected, panelled doors and window shutters and half-elliptical stair hall with open-well staircase with mahogany handrail and iron balusters with anthemion detail on an open string.
